Course Description:

This 7-day course explores the use of literature, storytelling, and drama as inclusive tools to support persons with disabilities. The training is fully practical, allowing participants to experiment with creative methods and adapt them to different needs.

Course Motivation:

Creativity is a powerful tool for empowerment, self-expression, and inclusion. Persons with disabilities often face social barriers to participating in cultural and artistic spaces. This course motivates participants to apply creative methodologies that foster participation, dignity, and social recognition.

Teaching Method:

Learning by doing: theatre workshops, collective writing, storytelling, and dramatic improvisation. Guided reflections connect these methods with professional practice. All sessions follow Erasmus+ principles of creativity, intercultural dialogue, and active inclusion.

Course Objectives:

Train professionals to use arts-based methods with individuals with disabilities.

Provide practical tools for storytelling, drama, and creative expression.

Strengthen social inclusion through creativity.

Highlight the importance of cultural participation in policy-making.

Course Schedule:

Day 1: Creative Foundations

• Group-building through theatre games.
• Icebreaking activities using storytelling and improvisation.
• Reflection on the role of creativity in inclusion.

Day 2: Storytelling as Empowerment

• Workshop: writing and adapting short personal stories.
• Pair-work to practice supportive listening and narration.
• Story-sharing circle with feedback.

Day 3 – Literature and Adaptation

• Assessing student learning in a Flipped Classroom setting: Formative and summative assessment techniques.
• Providing effective feedback to promote student growth and understanding.
• Case studies and examples of assessment methods used in Flipped Classroom environments.

Day 4 – Dramatic Techniques

• Practical theatre exercises: role-play, forum theatre, improvisation.
• Using body language and movement for inclusion.
• Reflection on emotional expression and empowerment.

Day 5: Combining Arts

• Workshop: integrating music, movement, and visual arts with drama.
• Group projects to design creative sessions for persons with disabilities..
• Peer exchange and feedback.

Day 6: From Practice to Implementation

• Simulated workshops: participants lead sessions using creative methods.
• Group feedback and refinement..
• Building cross-border cooperation projects in the arts and disability field.

Day 7: Future Perspectives and Dissemination

• Discussion: risks of exclusion if cultural rights are not prioritized in policy.
• Risks include loss of dignity, missed opportunities for expression, and cultural segregation.
• Final showcase: group performance or collective reading.
• Closing session and certification

Future Developments and Risks:

The course will address future developments and emerging trends in applying creative, literary, and dramatic techniques in the context of disability. Participants will gain insights into the growing role of assistive technologies, universal design for learning, co-creation with disabled artists, immersive modalities, and more intersectional, global perspectives in representation. Additionally, the course will discuss potential risks and challenges, including reinforcing stereotypes or tokenism, insufficient training and resources for accessibility, unequal power relations between disabled and non-disabled creators, ethical issues in representation, emotional distress among participants, and institutional or infrastructural barriers to inclusive practice.
